Schréder EXEDRA Smarter and More Sustainable Cities
Smart Lighting for one of Lisbon’s Most Congested Roads
Schréder Hyperion, the Smart City Centre of Excellence within the Schréder Group, is dedicated to accelerating the transition to more connected and sustainable urban infrastructure. Our advanced lighting management platform, Schréder EXEDRA , enables cities to optimise energy use and evolve into integrated smart city applications. Security and reliability are at the core of Schréder EXEDRA. The platform ensures data protection through encryption, hashing, tokenisation, and key management practices, all of which comply with the latest ISO 27001:2022 certification , a testament to our commitment to maintaining the highest standards in cybersecurity. Schréder EXEDRA is a comprehensive platform that enhances energy efficiency while maintaining safety, comfort and well-being in public spaces. It enables the programming of optimised dimming profiles based on multiple variables, such as calendar days, special events, and seasonal changes. The platform’s interoperability also enables it to manage controllers and sensors from different manufacturers, providing cities with a flexible, future-proof solution. By reducing energy consumption and extending the lifespan of luminaires, Schréder EXEDRA plays a key role in supporting sustainability efforts, helping cities lower their environmental impact while enhancing urban living. In 2025, building on the capabilities of the Schréder EXEDRA platform, Schréder introduced Schréder EXEDRA Genius, a service that integrates advanced analytics with professional consultancy to optimise energy savings and reduce carbon emissions. By translating operational data into actionable insights, our experts provide the technical oversight necessary for the continuous optimisation of lighting performance. This rigorous approach ensures the early detection of inefficiencies and secures long-term environmental gains across the entire asset lifecycle, maintaining a standard of safe, reliable and high-quality lighting for citizens. Connecting the lighting enables us to respond more quickly to any issues and provide a better service to our residents. This will make the lighting system more reliable and modern for the entire municipality. Patrick van de Wiel Public Lighting Advisor - Municipality of Tilburg
The Segunda Circular is a vital artery for Lisbon, supporting up to 130,000 vehicles every day. When relighting this road, Lisbon City Council sought a future-ready solution that would improve balance human safety with environmental responsibility. Optimising photometric performance and efficiency The deployment of 720 IZYLUM luminaires has substantially improved the quality of light for the thousands of motorists who travel along the road every day, delivering greater light uniformity and a higher colour rendering index. These high-performance luminaires have reduced the installed power by 67.4% (from 200 kW to 65 kW), which represents annual savings of 543,000 kWh. This will reduce the city’s annual energy costs by over €81,000. Data-driven resilient infrastructure All IZYLUM luminaires are connected to the Schréder EXEDRA platform. This platform gives the city the clarity and control it needs to manage energy precisely. It can adjust lighting levels based on actual requirements, ensuring that energy is only used when and where it is needed. By detecting anomalies in real time, the system enables a more informed maintenance strategy, reducing downtime and optimising operating costs. The smart lighting system will support the city in achieving its mission to reduce carbon emissions and build a more sustainable urban future.
