TECHNICAL VOCABULARY

AMPERE (A) Unit which measures the intensity of current which corresponds to the number of electrons which pass through a point in a circuit per second. VOLT (V) Unit which measures the voltage. The voltage is the difference in electrostatic potential between two points and is associated with the energy that an electron needs to move between these two points.

CE MARKINGS It is mandatory for all products covered by one or several European directives which specifically provide for it. To put CE marking on a product, the manufacturer must carry out, or have carried out, checks and tests to ensure that a product complies with the essential requirements, particularly in terms of health and safety, defined in the directive(s) concerned. It is not a certification mark or an indication of the geographical origin of the product. It is mandatory and of a regulatory nature and is the visible commitment of the manufacturer that its product complies with European legislation. It gives the products concerned the right of free movement throughout the European Union. PROCESSING OF ELECTRIC AND ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS’ END-OF-LIFE Applied to all products except incandescent bulbs, gas bulbs, spotlights, power cables and all non-electric products LEAKAGE CURRENT The leakage current is current which, by definition, leaks between the active parts and the grounding connection in the absence of an electrical fault. It is part of the installation’s normal functioning. The design of an electric installation must provide for residual current protection to ensure the safety of persons and goods by taking these leakages into account. These, along with the installation’s upstream cables, can reach the threshold value for activating the protection. The solution is to limit the number of devices protected by the same residual current device. For example, for 10 m of garlands, you measure leakage current equal to 0.09 mA. Knowing that a 30 mA circuit breaker is triggered at 16 mA, you need to heed to a maximum of 50 x 20 m garlands for an HPI type 30 mA differential circuit breaker.

WATT (W) Unit which measures the power consumed by a product. Calculation of the intensity of the current : P = U x I (P : power in W, U : voltage in V, I : intensity in A)

FREQUENCY (Hz) Number of times the polarity of the signal changes per second. It is given in Hertz.

COLOUR TEMPERATURE The colour temperature makes it possible to determine the colour of a light source. The apparent colour of a light source varies from the orange-red of a candle flame (1850 K) to the blueish colour of an electronic flash (between 5000 and 6500 K according to the manufacturer). It is measured in Kelvin (K).

„ Warm white: 2600 K „ Neutral white: 3500 K „ Cool white: 4500 K
