Kaikoura A renowned dark sky community Kaikoura is a picturesque coastal town on New Zealand’s South Island, renowned for its stunning scenery and marine life. The local authorities are committed to preserving this natural ecosystem, especially the endangered Hutton’s Shearwater, which is now only found in Kaikoura. Luminaires fitted with very warm white or warm white LEDs and controlled by Schréder EXEDRA ensure that the natural night sky is preserved. Particular care has been taken along the coastline, especially near the habitats and flight paths of the endangered Hutton’s shearwater. Thanks to this smart lighting upgrade, Kaikoura hopes to become a DarkSky Community.
