2. Lighting with Positive Social Impact

As urban populations continue to grow, so do the expectations of the people who live in them. As cities become denser and more complex, the need for smart infrastructure and thoughtful urban planning increases. Investing in modern, connected technologies - such as advanced lighting systems - is key to ensuring that cities remain liveable, inclusive and resilient. They want safe, vibrant and welcoming public spaces that reflect the unique character and identity of their city. At Schréder, we believe that lighting plays a crucial role in shaping these environments. The right lighting does more than just illuminate; it connects people, encourages social interaction and fosters a strong sense of community. Creating public spaces where people feel safe and comfortable - especially after dark - can dramatically enhance the urban experience. Well-lit streets, squares and parks contribute to a greater sense of safety and encourage more people to spend time outdoors, whether walking, commuting, exercising or socialising. Carefully designed lighting, combined with inclusive street furniture and accessibility features, ensures that everyone, especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children and people with disabilities, feel supported and safe in public spaces.

Lighting also enhances the visual appeal of cities. From everyday functionality to special moments of celebration, well-planned lighting can highlight landmark buildings, public art and heritage sites, transforming the cityscape and enhancing civic pride. Dynamic lighting that adapts to events, seasons or times of day allows cities to create atmospheres that are both engaging and energy efficient. Our lighting solutions are developed with a clear mission: To improve safety for all users, especially in critical areas such as pedestrian crossings, junctions and transit hubs. To enhance the quality of life by creating inclusive, accessible and enjoyable spaces for citizens to gather, relax and participate in community life. By putting people at the centre of urban lighting, we support cities in their ambition to be more sustainable, livable and human-centred both by day and by night.
