Product Packaging
In line with our wider environmental commitments, we evaluate each stage of the packaging lifecycle to identify areas where we can eliminate unnecessary materials, reduce weight and use more sustainable alternatives. Our approach to optimised packaging design focuses on reducing volume and weight to minimise material use, optimise transport efficiency and lower carbon emissions associated with shipping. By streamlining packaging dimensions, we ensure that resources are used efficiently while maintaining high standards of protection. We are also developing modular and adaptive designs that accommodate multiple product variations. This reduces the need for custom, single-use packaging and simplifies logistics and inventory management, further enhancing sustainability. Ensuring enhanced protection and circularity is a key priority in our packaging strategy. Our sustainable packaging solutions are designed to maintain durability and product integrity, ensuring that luminaires are fully protected from damage during transit and preventing unnecessary product waste due to breakage. We also strive to promote reusability and recyclability by designing packaging that can be reused by customers wherever possible. At the end of its life, the packaging can be easily recycled, reinforcing our commitment to a circular economy and reducing environmental impact. Aligning with Our Sustainability Goals These packaging improvements directly support our carbon reduction targets and contribute to our wider goal of minimising environmental impact throughout the entire product lifecycle. By integrating sustainable packaging into the lifecycle
of our luminaires - from manufacture to installation and disposal - we are reinforcing our commitment to responsible production and resource efficiency. In the future, we will continue to explore innovative packaging solutions, collaborate with suppliers on greener materials and refine our processes to further improve circularity and reduce our ecological footprint. At Schréder, we believe that sustainability goes beyond the product itself - it encompasses every element of design, materials and logistics. By transforming our approach to packaging, we are taking yet another step towards a more sustainable and resource-conscious future. Plastic foil removal The removal of plastic foil from IZYLUM and IZYLUM LT packaging has led to significant environmental benefits: • 183,600 plastic sheets removed from packaging • 5.7 tonnes of LDPE plastic waste avoided • 14 tonnes of CO₂ emissions avoided In 2024 alone, the initiative contributed to: • 2.5 tonnes of LDPE avoided • 6 tonnes of reduced CO₂ emissions These results highlight the positive impact of eliminating single-use plastics from our packaging processes. This initiative will be extended to other product families such as TECEO and AMPERA EVO to achieve further reductions.
and since then we have been able to provide our customers with cradle-to-grave LCA results and EPDs. In recent years, we have seen an increasing demand from our customers for EPD documents, and the quality, validity and compliance of these documents have also become more important than ever. To support their purchasing decisions, our customers now expect to be able to assess and compare the environmental impact of a product. Integration of new LCA software To better meet these changing expectations, in 2024 we started to implement a new, more robust process capable of providing our stakeholders with more accurate and verified information on the environmental impact of our products. After analysing several potential LCA software packages available on the market, we decided to use Sphera’s LCA For Experts product. Sphera 4 is the leading provider of integrated sustainability and operational risk management software, data and consulting services focused on Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHS&S), Process Safety, Product Stewardship and Supply Chain Transparency. Sphera’s state-of-the-art software, combined with the expertise of their LCA engineers, enabled us to build a detailed and robust LCA model that could ensure the level of accuracy we had set out to achieve at the start of the project.
